The World Bank assisted Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project (WaSSIP) is designed to increase access to piped water servions and improve sanitation in Malathivu, Kilinochchi, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Ratnaputa, Badulla, Moneragala, Gampaha, Kurunegala, Matale, Matars Districts, and capacity development of Drinking Water Sector Institutiona
The project will directly benefit an estimated 750,000 people with safe piped water supply. covering Urhan, Rural and Estate areas (Nuwara Eliya District only).
Further, the augmentation of some existing Rural Water Supply Systems, will improve service delivery in the proposed project areas..
Similarly, the Sanitation Programme will benefit approximately 24,000 families, to build the individual latrines in Rural anil Estate areas.
This project would finance the construction of strategically located septage treatment facilities in each of the District, in order to improve sanitation for people in town, and the environmental conditions in the catchment area of these facilities of which the main requirement of the project.
Project Management Unit (PMU) of this Project has hoon established in Colombo and District Support Units (DSUs) have been established, one in sach District. The total
